From time to time, the Loaves+Fishes team receives or hears of personal testimonies that are so powerful and uplifting that we feel should be shared. Here is a contribution by a father whose sons aged 8 and 11 attend Covenant Kids at CCMC, and who has been worshipping and blessed by the ministries of CCMC since 2017.
The boys' bedtime routine includes us praying together. It is a very precious thing for me (and them), with thanksgiving and supplication, and we round it up with the Lord's Prayer.
It has anchored our family, and kept us grounded despite the storms and demands of life. We pray for ourselves, people around us, people we love, etc.
Last night, after we all had finished our respective prayers, Z stopped me from carrying on with the Lord's Prayer.
"Daddy, can we recite Psalms 23 first?” Z requested.
"Sure, you have it in memory?" I asked.
"Yes!" V said.
And in that posture of prayer, we recited Psalms 23 together. As if they knew when they were reciting it, that the Words of the Psalm pierced my heart and ministered deeply to me.
We finished with the Lord's Prayer together. I was deeply moved.
I put them to bed, sat on the sofa looking a little stunned, and meditated on the Psalm; humbled by the knowledge that God loves me so much, and He would give my children the privilege of ministering to their father.
"Surely your goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord
forever."
Indeed.
