Love in Action: Supporting needy residents in MWS Bethany Nursing Home

CCMC's OSC Ministry currently organises quarterly visits to MWS Bethany Nursing Home as well as Singapore Christian Home. We welcome more volunteers to come on board!

Back in July, CCMC's Outreach and Social Concerns (OSC) Committee sought sponsors for needy residents in Methodist Welfare Services Bethany Nursing Home (MWS BNH). We are heartened to share that the combined donations of 5 individuals, 2 Growth Groups and 1 couple covered the fees for 12 residents in total.

Mr Richard Quah, Head of MWS BNH spoke on behalf of their clients.

“We are thankful to Covenant Community Methodist Church for blessing and supporting our residents by partially sponsoring their Nursing Home fees. Your generous act of love has helped them and their families to experience God’s love and know that there are good Samaritans who are willing to help shoulder their financial burdens. As Mother Teresa said, 'Not all of us can do great things but we can do small things with great love.' May the Lord bless CCMC and your families abundantly.”

About MWS Bethany Nursing Home

MWS Bethany Nursing Home in Choa Chu Kang (MWS BNH) serves 300 residents and most are admitted via the Agency for Integrated Care’s referrals.

Most of its residents receive up to 75% subsidies for Singapore Citizens and up to 50% subsidies for Permanent Residents based on means-testing assessment.

While MWS BNH helps residents access all applicable government grants and financial assistance to alleviate their financial burdens, there remains about 90 residents who are still unable to pay for the un-subsidised portion of their fees.

There are a host of reasons why these residents require financial support.

Some are low income workers, or unable to work for sustained periods due to illness and thus depleted their savings to pay for their medical expenses.

A great time of live music for our beneficaries!

Others are single or estranged from family, and lack access to support. Some still have young dependents or even adult children who are already hard-pressed by their own financial  commitments and thus unable to support their relatives.

How you can help

We are still seeking more financial support for needy residents. For $300 per month or $3,600 per year, sponsors will be able to help these residents pay for their fees which include rehabilitation, consumables and treatments.

Sponsors will further receive bi-annual reports in June and December which include updates on the residents’ health and progress.
