CCMC's One Community applies lessons on social justice, putting what they've learnt into action by supporting displaced persons in Singapore.
COVID-19 has not only brought forth unprecedented disruption, but also highlighted the existence and challenges of displaced individuals and families in Singapore.
To support this segment of society, New Hope Community Services (NHCS) launched an awareness and fundraising campaign that will run till end September. About 800 kids from several schools have contributed to this campaign through their school's VIA activities.
Funds raised are channelled towards providing critical shelter services. NHCS’s mission is to provide temporary housing to homeless families who may otherwise have resorted to staying on the streets, parks, or void-decks, while assisting them to regain their footing in the society.
CCMC’s One Community had already planned a series of lessons about social justice from August to September. And this #buildahomenhcs campaign was a timely and good fit for the youths to put what they are learning into action.
Said Ronak Robert, member of the CCMC Outreach & Social Concerns Ministry, “The team defined three objectives for our social justice programme: Awareness, Action and Attitude. Understanding the needs of vulnerable communities, taking the action to serve, and having the heart and mind to do God’s work and share His love. Supporting this campaign helps us reflect on our programme and is also a timely reminder to be thankful for all our blessings.”
OC teenagers will be making a craft cut-out of a home from materials found at home, and posting on social media to raise awareness for rough sleepers who can find safety and comfort in New Hope's shelters.
The group behind this initiative comprises of Ronak, Alysson, Fang Qing, Natasha and Jonathan.
This follows the Young Adults’ earlier social initiative in July when they purchased and delivered 36 sets of cleaning equipment and two months of supplies for New Hope shelters. That effort was facilitated by Thaddeus, Alysson, Fang Qing, Natasha and Xavia.
Both Ronak and Thaddeus serve in OC and YA and are also committee members of the Outreach and Social Concerns Ministry.
